Just 20 seconds in, junior Orlando Sanchez snuck past the Hardee defense and fired a shot from his left foot from the left side of the net which snuck past the Wildcat defender to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs struck again six minutes later as Mario Alvarez received a pass over a Hardee defender which ended up in the right side of the net, adding to the DeSoto lead, 2-0.
The match became physical as bodies flew from sideline to sideline, and as the offense was threatening again in the 28th minute, a Hardee defender came in the box and made a slide tackle on DeSoto's Noel Segura that resulted in a penalty kick, which ended up just over the outstretched hand of the Wildcats goalie, pushing the DeSoto lead to 3-0.
By the 72nd minute, the Hardee defenders had had enough of the powerful DeSoto offense, and as Eva Angeles took a shot, the ball ricocheted off a Hardee defender and flew past the goalie for the Bulldogs fourth and final goal.
The Bulldogs were mainly on the Hardee side of the field the entire night, firing 33 shots, while DeSoto goalie freshman Noe Morales was less active as the defenders allowed just seven shots on goal, with Morales picking up five saves.
"Goal keeping has always been a big thing for me; we've got three freshman this year which I look forward to because we've got four years to work with them," coach Tracey Hay said. " (Morales) the starter right now, but it's whomever is playing the best, the defense needs someone they can trust and right now, he's got the hot hand."
DeSoto (5-3-2) will travel to Braden River for a match with the Pirates tonight at six, and then will turn around and host the Pirates on Friday night at 6 p.m.
"Tonight was good because it's a win, but we've always got to think after every match what we've gotta improve on and tonight was playing a full 80 minute match, not just one half," Hay said
