The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Pappu who was accused of abetting suicide of Rizwanur Rahman.
Pappu had allegedly taken Rs 11 lakh from the Todi family to engineer separation of Rizwanur and his wife Priyanka.
Justice D P Sengupta granted the bail prayer of Pappu alias Moinuddin after a division bench had earlier differed in its decision over his bail plea and the matter was then assigned to his court by Chief Justice S S Nijjar.
Pappu had surrendered before a metropolitan magistrate here on October 27 and has since been in jail.
The bench comprising Justice Amit Talukdar and Justice P S Banerjee, who had differed on whether to grant bail to Rizwanur's father in-law and main accused Ashok Todi, had a similar difference of opinion on December 15 with the former being in favour and latter against.
Pappu, who was close to Rizwanur's family, had allegedly taken Rs 11 lakh in two instalments from the Todi's to engineer the separation of Rizwanur from his wife Priyanka and ensure that she returned to her father, Ashok Todi.
Justice Talukdar was of the opinion that at this stage there was no reason for further custody as the chargesheet has been filed.
Justice Banerjee, however, differed saying that with the allegation of Pappu having received a large sum of money for sabotaging the marriage, bail should not be granted.
Ashok Todi and his two relatives, Pappu and three police officers have been accused of abettment to suicide, criminal intimidation and conspiracy, by the CBI in connection with the death of Rizwanur, whose body was found beside railway tracks a month after his marriage to Priyanka in August 2007
