Three top suspected militants of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), including the outfit's divisional commander were killed in a fierce gun battle on Friday in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A jawan of the Rashtriya Rifle (RR) was also killed in the encounter that continued for several hours in Gundna area of Thathri tehsil of Doda.
"The RR troops had launched an operation based on specific information and a fierce gun battle took place early today," army spokesperson S N Acharya said. He, however, declined to identify the dead jawan.
LeT divisional commander Mohammad Iqbal Malik whose code name is Mudassar alias Abu Umer, were among the three killed in the several hours-long battle, he said adding that the jawan also lost his life during the gun fight, he added.
The other two dead militants were identified as Nasir Ahmed Malik -- whose code name is Marsab alias Abu Bilal -- and Shoyab alias Mohammad Ashraf, Acharya said.
Three AK rifles and a huge quantity of ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
Iqbal was active since 2002 and was responsible for selective killings in Doda district while Nasir and Shoyab had joined the outfit in 2007 and 2005 respectively, he said.
One more top militant and district commander of LeT, Saifullah Qari, hailing from Pakistan was also killed yesterday by troops of 4 RR in Amritpura area of Doda, Acharya added.
