Shoegate: Iraqi scribe may get 15-yr jail term

Television reporter Muntader al Zeidi may be put behind bars for throwing his shoes on US President George W. Bush, with reports suggesting that the Iraqi Government is planning to punish him.

There have been conflicting accounts as to which law will be used to prosecute al Zeidi.

Many legal experts say that he may be imprisoned for a maximum period of 15 years.

However, some say that the sentence could be cult in half to seven-and-a-half years because both shoes missed, reports CBS News.

Under the Iraqi law, any person who assaults a foreign Head of state while he is in Iraq or on an official visit, or attempts to do so, but not to the extent of murdering him, is punishable by imprisonment.
