Pakistan examining proof

Pakistan on Sunday ruled out handing over to any country any of its nationals found involved in the Mumbai terror attacks, saying “necessary action” would be taken under its own laws.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said, “We are conducting our own investigation and once we have completed it, we will bring the findings before the people.”

Mr. Gilani said the evidence provided by India was being examined by investigators. “We have our own laws and we will take action according to them. We want to assure everyone that we will not allow our soil to be used for terrorism,” the premier told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Sukkur district in the southern Sindh province. Pakistan was taking action against terrorists and terror groups and this would continue, he added.

Mr. Gilani said Indian politicians should “mend their ways,” claiming their statements were stoking tensions.

Earlier, in his address at the inauguration of the Sangi Cadet College in Sukkur, he said Pakistan did not want tensions in the region. The armed forces, the government and the people were united to face any eventuality and to defend the country, he said. “No one can dare cast an evil eye on the country,” Mr. Gilani said.

“I want to assure you that this government will complete its five-year term and solve the problems of the country,” he said, amid reports of differences between him and President Asif Ali Zardari
